tachAId

Voice-over: elevenlabs.io; the images in the video are AI-generated.

tachAId enables decision-makers and software developers to explore the issues surrounding human-centred AI development independently. The tool raises awareness of the need for a human-centred approach and highlights problem areas and potential solutions for the development and design of AI that is tailored to human needs.

tachAId is available via this link.

What problem do many companies face?

The pace of innovation and the pressure to keep up with other companies in the field of AI are putting firms under considerable pressure to develop technology. However, the importance of designing human-AI interaction is often underestimated. The challenges involved in human-AI collaboration are often only vaguely understood. The implementation of human-centred AI therefore requires inspiration, information and guidance regarding the relevant challenges and the corresponding technical solutions.

How does the tool help to solve the problem?

tachAId is a self-service tool – an interactive online guide – that supports developers in their work and provides decision-makers with relevant input for the technical design of human-AI workplaces.

How is the tool used within the company?

Before or during the implementation of AI or the improvement of AI systems, the tool can be used online to independently and interactively find and absorb the information relevant to one’s own AI project.

What is the (time) cost to the company associated with this objection?

Depending on your needs and the extent to which you are using the tool, an individual session with the tool can last between 40 and 180 minutes.

What added value does the tool bring to the company?

Provides an introduction to the general issues and more in-depth information on human-centred AI. Written in accessible language, it is particularly suitable for stakeholders.

Validation was carried out using think-aloud studies and semi-structured interviews. The key finding was that the tool promotes awareness of the ethical aspects of AI development – ‘Awareness as a prerequisite for ethical practice’. Feedback from users led to targeted adjustments to the navigation structure. The tool was validated through its use under realistic conditions at IMS Messsysteme GmbH and within the H2Giga – FertiRob project. Numerous conclusions were drawn from the tool’s application for the relevant AI projects, e.g. the need for data security, the provision of explanations regarding how the AI works in order to build appropriate trust in it, and safeguarding the AI in operation against the phenomenon of ‘data drift’. The tool has thus highlighted previously unrecognised needs for human-centred AI development among the stakeholders and AI developers involved.

As part of the validation process, numerous improvements were identified regarding the format and presentation of the tool’s content. These measures help to ensure that tachAId can be used even more smoothly and intuitively.
