Job Perception Inventory – JOPI
Graphics & music: PowToon.com
The JOPI is a modular questionnaire inventory designed to continuously support and evaluate the development, implementation and use of AI technologies within an organisation. Based on the current situation – as assessed by the JOPI in terms of relevant job characteristics, professional identity and workplace experience – a people-centred implementation strategy can be devised that prioritises employees’ needs and promotes acceptance of the technology. Further surveys using the JOPI during and after AI implementation can highlight changes in the perception of job characteristics, professional identity and workplace experience, thereby identifying areas for optimisation. In addition, the JOPI also includes a section for assessing collaboration with the AI system, thus providing relevant starting points for technology development based on employees’ needs.

What problem do many companies face?
Companies devote considerable resources to integrating AI systems into their work processes. Nevertheless, implementation often fails due to a lack of user acceptance or, in the long term, fails to lead to a measurable improvement in organisational KPIs (the productivity paradox), as there is too much focus on the technological aspects of the development and implementation process.
How does the tool help to solve the problem?
The JOPI helps to focus on the needs, skills and sense of identification of employees in the workplace during the development and implementation of AI, thereby contributing to the successful roll-out of AI in the long term from both an employee and a management perspective. Furthermore, the JOPI can be used on multiple occasions to continuously evaluate not only the roll-out process but also the day-to-day benefits, thereby identifying areas for optimisation over time.
How is the tool used within the company?
16 modular questionnaire scales which, when completed in full, take up to 20–30 minutes to complete. The first administration should take place prior to any upcoming changes, on the basis of which the AI development and implementation process should ideally be planned and adapted. Repeated administrations for continuous evaluation are desirable and recommended for identifying areas for optimisation.
The JOPI is cost-effective and can be carried out online.
How much time will the company need to spend on implementing this?
If all modules are used in full, the exercise takes 20–30 minutes. The results can be analysed and utilised internally or in a workshop format, meaning that the time required can vary.
Ideally, the assessment should be carried out with the support of a person with psychological expertise.
What added value does the tool bring to the company?
The added value of JOPI lies in human-centred AI development and implementation within organisations, and in evaluating the use of and collaboration with the AI system from the employees’ perspective following its introduction.
