Using a checklist, the tool enables AI systems to be assessed in terms of their resource-enhancing (‘friendly AI’) and harmful (‘unfriendly AI’) effects, and helps to initiate a dialogue on ideas for shaping human-centred AI development and its deployment.

What problem do many companies face?

When introducing new technologies, companies must take into account potential risks to employees; however, there are currently very few tools available for a comprehensive assessment of the potential and risks associated with AI.

How does the tool help to solve the problem?

The tool offers a scientifically sound method that enables practitioners in the workplace to independently examine the impact of AI systems on work and employment.

How is the tool used within the company?

A checklist is used to identify the potential and risks associated with AI. In subsequent rounds of dialogue between users and those responsible for design, ideas for the design of human-centred AI development and implementation are then discussed.

What is the time commitment involved for the company in raising this objection?

It takes approximately 10 minutes to complete the checklist; allow approximately 60 minutes for discussing the results. Further discussion sessions on design ideas can then be held as required.

What added value does the tool bring to the company?

Early identification of the risks and opportunities presented by AI for work within the organisation, and starting points for developing tailored design concepts.

Application of the tool and identification of opportunities, risks and the resulting design requirements for…

  • a team of developers at a research institution, with a view to using generative AI (ChatGPT) in knowledge work,
  • at a company operating in the field of distribution logistics, and the introduction and use of an automated guided vehicle system there, as well as
  • at a care home, in relation to an AI-based care documentation system introduced there.
