Digital Competence Lab (DCL)

The Competence Lab is a digital tool that supports the integration of artificial intelligence into everyday therapeutic practice. In light of the shortage of skilled workers and demographic change, the platform offers resource-efficient solutions that can be tailored to individual needs. Users can find everything in one place (the website) – from tutorials and podcasts to documents and checklists that are designed with practical application in mind and address the specific needs of speech and language therapists.

What is the problem?

Demographic change is leading to a rise in patient numbers. At the same time, there is a shortage of skilled staff in the speech and language therapy sector, which is resulting in gaps in care provision. Smart technologies offer a valuable addition to the fight against under-provision, although this is difficult to standardise.

How does the tool help to solve the problem?

The Digital Competence Lab offers speech and language therapists a central platform to find out about data protection, apps, AI and new communication models, and to keep up to date with the latest research. Practical, tried-and-tested resources support the efficient integration of digital and smart technologies.

How is the tool used?

Speech and language therapists use the DCL as a digital platform to obtain specific answers to their questions about the use of digital and smart technologies in practice. The platform offers a wide range of resources, including tutorials, documents, guidance notes for specific practical scenarios, and podcasts on current research topics.

How much time does using the application take?

The DCL enables learning tailored to individual needs, which can be integrated into day-to-day work without the need for extensive external workshops. The courses are available on a flexible basis and can therefore be easily integrated into everyday life.

What added value does the tool provide?

The DCL offers a needs-based platform that is continuously developed through user feedback and queries, with the aim of advancing digital skills in speech and language therapy.
