On 29 September, Prof. Dr Uta Wilkens attended the annual event organised by the Council for Economic and Social Affairs at the Diocesan Academy ‘Die Wolfsburg’ in Mülheim. Together with Bishop Franz-Josef Overbeck, Prof. Christoph M. Schmidt and other experts from the fields of medicine, science and business, she discussed the opportunities and risks of artificial intelligence, as well as the key question of how far machines should be allowed to take over decision-making.
During the panel discussion, Prof. Wilkens emphasised that the successful integration of AI into businesses depends largely on change management and a conscious approach to new roles. She argued that humans must always retain responsibility and actively shape the ‘pace’ of technological transformation.
The event made it clear that artificial intelligence offers great potential for business, medicine and society, but requires clear ethical guidelines and a conscious balance between technological progress and social responsibility.
