HUMAINE was represented with its own workshop at LearningAID at the Ruhr University Bochum. Under the title ‘Behind and Beyond Learning Analytics – Responsible AI Development and Usage’, we explored responsible AI use as a component of higher education together with the participants. The workshop was led by Dr Valentin Langholf (Institut für Arbeitswissenschaft) and Dominik Arnold (Lehrstuhl für Produktionssysteme). After an introduction to criteria for human-centred and responsible AI use from a research perspective, four didactic formats from the HUMAINE project were presented. These included:
- A demonstrator to improve attitudes towards human-centred AI (Dominik Arnold, LPS)
- The human-AI role laboratory (Valentin Langholf, IAW)
- AIbox for solving sustainability challenges through the use of artificial intelligence (Marie-Christin Barton, ISSE)
- Design thinking for human-centred work design (Sophie Berretta, AOW)
In a lively discussion with the participants, the formats and their role in a university didactic approach to responsible AI use were presented and discussed. In addition, the participants looked at future developments such as the special features of generative AI and associated challenges for university education. With this workshop, HUMAINE made a contribution to the already advanced discussion of AI in teaching at Ruhr-Universität Bochum by highlighting the special features of responsible AI use in work processes based on the expertise of the HUMAINE competence centre. We would like to thank everyone for their committed participation in this exciting discussion of responsible AI in university education.
