Is artificial intelligence a game-changer in medicine?

We discussed this question as part of the HUMAINE Ideas Lab on 20 July 2022.

The panel discussion was kicked off by fascinating practical presentations from Lucas Habrich of dermanostic – a dermatology app – and Prof. Jörg Wellmer from the Knappschaftskrankenhaus Bochum.
Afterwards, participants were able to find out about the latest developments and key areas of research into AI in medicine at various stations.
Using the emergency manikin at the Catholic Hospital in Bochum, participants were able to practise responding to an emergency and explore data usage as well as the challenges involved in utilising AI.
Finally, a guided tour of the recently opened ZESS research building was offered.

In summary, we can conclude that artificial intelligence has the potential to be a game-changer in medicine. This will have far-reaching implications not only for work processes, staff and management, but also for patients.
A human-centred approach to the development and use of AI is necessary to ensure acceptance of and trust in these solutions.
We would like to thank everyone involved.
